Transitional and Independent Living
Blueprints’ Independent Living Program is designed to empower youth, ages 14 to 23, engaged with Children and Youth Services by providing the knowledge and skills necessary for self-sufficiency. The program helps participants build confidence and independence through hands-on training, access to resources, and personalized guidance. With a focus on permanency and transition planning, the program ensures that youth are prepared to live independently and take control of their future. Casework support services play an essential role in the final phases of preparation for independence.
The Transitional Living Services component addresses the needs of youth in foster care but do not have a plan for where or with whom they will live next. For many, family members may be unable or unwilling to be part of their future plans, and in some cases, parental rights may have been terminated.
Blueprints understands the importance of equipping all youth in placement settings with independent living skills. Foster parents and Blueprints Independent Living Caseworkers collaborate to teach basic life skills and foster self-reliance. For those who demonstrate readiness, the Transitional Living Apartment program offers a supportive environment where youth can further develop their independence and gain practical experience in self-sufficiency.
