Waynesburg, PA — Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc. recently partnered with Community Action Southwest (“CAS”) to support their Eldercare and Home Delivered Meals programs in Greene County.

In addition to an $8,000 donation, Columbia employees will provide natural gas safety presentations to seniors at CAS’s Carmichaels and Waynesburg facilities this spring.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to support organizations, like Community Action Southwest and its Eldercare program, that underscore our commitment to keep customers warm and safe this winter,” said Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania President Mark Kempic. “Like Columbia, Community Action Southwest actively supports seniors and works to make a positive difference in the Greene County communities it serves.”

Eldercare programs support the elderly throughout the county by providing a safe, relaxed environment for older adults with a cognitive impairment. A portion of Columbia’s monetary contribution will support the Home Delivered Meal program, which delivers nearly 4,000 meals to home bound seniors every month.

“These programs are not particularly well funded, but are vitally important to the seniors in Greene County. We are so appreciative of Columbia and their generous support of our programs,” says Community Action Southwest CEO Darlene Bigler.

Eldercare provides sensory and social stimulation, promotes individuality, and enhances quality of life. The program helps to alleviate the emotional stress experienced by caregivers by providing them with a much needed break. Activities are offered daily and include health screenings, musical entertainment, exercise, Wii Bowling, dancing, games, and fun.

Eldercare is located at 1505 Morris Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370. The facility is open Monday – Friday with flexible hours.

For more information or if you would like to schedule a complimentary tour of Eldercare, call Karen Hoy at 724.852.2012.

This project is funded, in part, under a contract with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging, Inc., the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Greene County United Way, and by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania.
