Washington, PA — Community Action Southwest (CAS) is currently recruiting volunteers in the Mon Valley to tutor students in its Adult Education Program. The program is designed to assist area residents age 17 or older to obtain their GED and/or increase their learning skills so they may enroll in a trade school or college or gain employment.

Volunteers are needed to assist Pennsylvania-Certified Teachers with classes at the PA CareerLink Mon Valley located in Donora. Classes are held at this site on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Training will be provided and volunteers can tutor students in subject areas in which they are comfortable ranging from reading, writing, spelling, math, science and social studies.

Volunteers must either have a Bachelor’s Degree or be actively pursuing a four-year degree at a college or university.

CAS’ Adult Education Program is part of the agency’s Community Action WORKS initiative designed to serve its clients in a comprehensive fashion. Addressing adult education, employability, skills, housing and asset development, while creating opportunities and providing support for economic independence is the framework in which client success is realized.
