Community Action Southwest (CAS) received a $700 grant award from Meals on Wheels America in recognition of their participation in the 2014-2015 Subaru “Share the Love” event.    CAS will use the funding from Subaru of America, Inc. to purchase complimentary gas cards to support our volunteers who deliver meals using their own vehicles and fuel.

As part of the national partnership with Meals on Wheels America, Subaru donated $250 to the purchaser’s choice of participating charity, one of which was Meals on Wheels, for every new vehicle sold or leased from November 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015.  By the end of the seventh “Share the Love” event, Subaru donated $50 million to charity, including the delivery of one million meals to seniors in need.

Community Action Southwest raised community awareness about senior hunger for the “Share the Love” event via our agency’s website (www.caswg.org) and various social media sources.  In calendar year 2014, CAS provided 41,146 Meals on Wheels to 298 homebound older adults in rural Greene County.  Currently, CAS aging programs have 266 volunteers who assist in the delivery of services, which includes Meals on Wheels.  The monetary support from Subaru of America, Inc. assists the program with sustaining and supporting its current level of volunteers.

The program also receives funding under a contract with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging, Inc. through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, and the Greene County United Way.
