Washington, PA – Community Action Southwest is pleased to announce a partnership with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to coordinate Work-Based Learning Experiences for high school students with disabilities ages 14-21 in Fayette, Greene and Washington Counties.

The Work-Based Learning Experiences are essentially internships, where students will gain 90-hours of paid work experience on-site with a local employer.

With parental permission, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation staff will meet with students to determine program eligibility. Once eligibility is verified, Community Action Southwest staff will meet with the students to determine their career interests, skills and abilities. Staff will then help the students develop resumes and begin connecting them with employers in the community to establish internship sites.

Through these internships, students will receive work experience, be paid an hourly stipend by Community Action Southwest and most importantly, gain some work experience to help them succeed in a career upon graduation.

This program is funded through an Innovation and Expansion grant through the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
