Across West Virginia, nearly 6,000 children are currently in state custody. More than one-third are teenagers between 13 and 17. Because there are so few foster homes open to teens, many face the possibility of staying in hotels or being placed out of state—far from everything familiar.

Most teens in foster care age out without ever having a family to call their own. Not because they’re difficult. Not because they don’t want connection. Simply because people assume they’re “too old.”

But teenagers still need someone to drive them to practice. Someone who asks how their day went. Someone who offers a safe place to land when life gets overwhelming. You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to be present.
