Counting Caterpillars
– Pre-cut circles of colored paper (about the size of a quarter) and draw a simple “caterpillar head” with the number of body segments to add for each one – the children can lay the circles next to the caterpillar faces to match the numbers listed (no need to glue – that way, they can play again or easily make changes) – once completed, talk about which one is the longest, which one may be the fastest (or slowest) and why.
